Discover the story of The Railway Children in our Warehouse Paper Chase, or take The Railway Children Challenge and follow Mr Perks on an exciting adventure through our museum. We've also got turntable demonstrations, cab access to some of our most famous locomotives, and a packed daily programme of talks and tours.

The Railway Children Challenge

4 August – 5 September | Tues – Sat, 11am – 12noon

Follow Perks and his apprentice on an exciting journey around our museum in The Railway Children Challenge. Learn all about signalling and how a steam engine works, then take an exclusive tour of The Railway Children set.

Tickets cost £5 per person,and can be booked via York Theatre Royal


Overheard railway conversations

Experience our brand new, unique theatre performance based on real overheard conversations submitted by our visitors.


Scale Me Down

Discover what goes on behind the scenes of a theatre production as you enter the world of set modelling. Create your own 'mini-me' model and take it on a photography adventure around our museum.


On Stage

Have you got what it takes to recreate costumes and sets from The Railway Children ready to go ‘on stage’? Dress up in our period clothing and strike a pose for the camera!


Paper Chase

18 July – 6 September | Warehouse

Follow clues around our Warehouse and embark on your own paper chase to uncover the missing parts of The Railway Children story.
