Institute of Railway Studies & Transport History

The Institute of Railway Studies & Transport History is a partnership between the National Railway Museum and the University of York.

Founded in 1995 (as the Institute of Railway Studies), it has become the leading centre for the study of the history of transport and mobility. It offers courses and research degrees that lead to university qualifications in railway studies. Students benefit from the Institute's expert staff, and the expertise, resources and facilities of both the NRM and the University.

There are also a series of research workshops that are available free of charge to everyone.

The Institute is located on the campus of the University of York and at the NRM.
