What is the cost of passing on genes?
To pass on our genes in a near-perfect condition to the next generation, our bodies must constantly repair any damage to the cells that make our eggs or sperm. This takes energy, leaving fewer resources for the rest of the body. One theory says that the rest of the body's cells are not as meticulously maintained, resulting in ageing.
