What is consciousness?
Consciousness has been described as ‘awareness of oneself embedded in the world’. Your self-reflective awareness defines you in the context of society, culture and history. Many neuroscientists think consciousness emerges from the activities of our tangled network of neurons. Some scientists believe consciousness in the brain is represented by different subsets of areas or groups of neurons within the brain that are interacting together strongly and rapidly. But until scientists agree on a definition for consciousness, how to study it will remain a mystery.
