An innovative, busy and cross-cultural programme saw the Science Museum welcome 2.95 million visitors this year - our highest annual total since free entry was introduced in 2001.

This year, the National Railway Museum in York, which cares for the largest collection of railway artefacts in the world, boosted its visitor numbers to 732,000 with an exciting programme.

The National Railway Museum at Shildon broke records last year when it attracted 210,000 visitors and enjoyed its best year since opening in 2004.
