Legend of Apollo 3D film
Metropolis Entertainment Limited, makers of educational and experiential films have created a new 3D experiential film which will provide a unique insight into the Apollo moon landings of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. The film opened at the Science Museum in mid-2009 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the first lunar landing. The film was then available for licensing to aerospace and science museums and other similar venues worldwide.
Our Exploring Space gallery and objects such as the Apollo 10 command module are some of the most popular attractions in the Science Museum – there’s nothing like seeing the real thing! The new simulation theatre and film will be a welcome addition for all of our space travel fans and will add a new dimension to the incredible stories told in the galleries.
Doug Millard, the Science Museum’s Senior Curator ICT & Space Technology,
The film will be based around the subject of the Apollo lunar landings and will be produced specifically to integrate with today’s simulation and effects technologies to place audiences into a truly experiential environment where they not only see, but feel and sense what it was like to be part of this major historical event. The film will draw on actual Apollo archival footage, recent satellite imagery of the Moon, and exceptional 3D computer animation.
During the full High Definition 3D film, the audience will observe a Saturn V launch from the Earth, the view from lunar orbit, lunar landing, driving the lunar rover, lunar launch, and re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere as well as other unique sights and sounds of an Apollo expedition to the Moon.
