The first hurdle

Algae biofuels seem to have potential, but will they help slow down climate change? They naturally produce more oil than other plants and don't need as much space. So they could help by replacing some fossil fuels.

But would algae biofuels do more harm than good? Algae farms could be ugly and might need a lot of water and other resources. It's hard to guess what their impact might be.

And will the technology work in practice? Until we know this, it's hard to answer the other two questions. Let's take a closer look...
