The right price

One of the big problems with algae biofuels is whether they will be cheap enough to produce. For people to start running their cars on a different fuel, it's got to be affordable - who wants to pay more than petrol prices to top up their tank?

'At the moment, making biofuel from algae is very expensive,' says Alan Scragg, a biofuels expert at the University of the West of England. 'The price of oil is still cheap in comparison, so we need financial incentives to start developing algae biofuels.'
