Biofuels might be big news at the petrol pumps, but the most common biofuels actually have nothing to do with cars. Burning simple biofuels such as wood and animal dung provides energy to more people around the world than any other type of fuel.

Biomass fuels burn well because they're made from plants, which are packed full of energy absorbed from the Sun. Dung from animals like cows is mainly plants too, so that burns in the same way.

But how about closer to home?
