Biofuels are nothing new. We've been burning wood for thousands of years, and even early car manufacturers like Henry Ford designed their cars to run on biofuels.

Biofuels currently make up around 80% of the UK's renewable energy - mainly mixed together with fossil fuels in power plants and petrol pumps. The fuels are back in the news as the government is setting targets for us to use more.

So will biofuels scale up in practice?
