New weapon to wage war on bird flu
10 July 2008
Scientists have developed a new technique which could lead to better drugs in the battle against bird flu. The international team created a genetically modified version of the flu virus which is capable of infecting fruit flies. The virus interacts with the fruit fly's genes to copy itself and spread around the fly's body. And because the fruit fly's genetic make-up is well understood, scientists can easily spot the genes the virus is tampering with.
