Revealing the universe's secrets

Smashing particles together in the LHC will create a cascade of different particles. But all the particles are far too small to be seen, so scientists will use hi-tech detectors to capture the tell-tale tracks they leave behind.

When they analyse the results from the detectors, the scientists will have information from the real world they can compare against their theories about the universe, to see if they are right.
