Distinctive detectors

The four main detectors have all been built to a different design. So even though they have a lot in common, each one is unique.

Most of them share the same cylindrical shape and are made up of layers, like an onion. But the LHCb detector is setting its own trend - with its layers stacked behind each other like books on a shelf.
