Searching for evidence

The four detectors work in different ways, but they are all looking at what happens when particles collide. Two of the detectors, ALICE and LHCb, are looking for answers to specific questions we have about the universe.

The other two, ATLAS and CMS, are huge general-purpose detectors. They'll be on the hunt for lots of different particles, in particular looking for evidence of how the particles around us get mass.

The CMS detector will detect new particles, hopefully helping to unravel some of the mysteries of the universe.
