Seeing blue

In the new test, the surgeon injects a small amount of radioactive tracer and blue dye around the breast tumour.

As the tracer and dye drain away through the patient's lymph vessels, the surgeon can track their path using a probe.

The new test is called sentinel node biopsy. It's named after the sentinel node, which is the first lymph gland that the tracer comes to.
