Mistaken identity
Every year over 37,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK alone. Three-quarters of them are dead 12 months later. Lung cancer is a killer because it's tricky to spot early symptoms.
Even with today's best diagnostic tools, it's easy for doctors to mistake cancer for less serious conditions. This is partly because many cancer victims are smokers, who tend to suffer breathing problems anyway.
