Strict standards

Rolls-Royce has been making Trent aeroplane engines for more than 20 years, but the company had to meet some tough environmental standards with the Trent 900.

'The key challenges in designing the Trent 900 were to lower the environmental footprint by maximising fuel efficiency and minimising the noise levels for both passengers and the communities over which the aircraft flies,' explains Graham Upton, Trent 900 chief engineer.
