Cool… and sunny
Rising from Dubai's scorching desert is the Burj Dubai. When finished, in 2009, this will be the world's tallest tower. At its top, luxury apartments will have clear views stretching for 80 kilometres.
'Such stunning vistas will be thanks to state-of-the-art glass technology,' says architect Peter Weismantle. 'In the desert, architects usually install tinted glass to shade building interiors from the Sun's rays. The Burj Dubai will have clear glass, but it won't be like a greenhouse. Its glass will have an ultra-thin, invisible surface layer of shiny stainless steel to reflect the Sun's heat.'
