From bad to worse?
In England and Wales, 5 million people already live in homes at risk from floods. But climate change could make the situation worse.
Scientists think that climate change will make extreme weather events more frequent and severe in the UK. They predict we'll suffer wetter winters and greater summer storminess. By 2080, they say, the seas around southern England could have risen by nearly a metre, and during floods river waters could be 20 per cent higher.
