Burning buildings

No matter how fireproof you make a building, people add their own fuel.

Buildings are mostly made of steel and concrete - material that doesn't burn very well. Yet fires still happen. Why? Fire safety engineer Anthony Ferguson explains:'Though the building may not burn easily, the contents - furniture, equipment and files do. There are also a lot of things that might start fires - hot lights, cooking, electrical faults. Over the years of a building's life the chances are several fires will be started. The thing is to try and see that they never hurt anyone.'
