Defining climate
What do we mean by 'climate'?
Climate is a description of the average weather conditions of a particular place. It is measured over long periods of time - at least 30 years.
The climate varies over decades, but also on much longer timescales - between ice ages, for example. The Earth's average temperature is a good measure of the stability of the climate.
