Early birds

Trend: Easter eggs early! Robins are laying their eggs up to 17 days earlier in the spring, compared to 25 years ago.

Explanation: 'The birds have evolved to lay their eggs so that the nestlings hatch when food is available. So egg laying relates closely to spring temperatures - and it is happening a few days earlier in the year because of climate change.' Jean Palutikof, Climatic Research Unit, University of East Anglia
