Tracking the rising tides

Sailors and seafarers have always kept a close eye on the tides. Records kept for over 100 years show that, on average, the sea has risen by 10 to 25 cm since 1900.

But to go further back in time scientists use the ocean's natural indicators of sea level - tiny animals called foraminifera ('forams' for short).
