Blooming algae!
Penguins are only one part of the story. The unusually quick warming is leaving its mark on the ecology of lakes close to the peninsula, on the Signy Islands.
In 20 years the islands' temperature has risen by just 1ºC. But that's set in place a cascade of events leading to a bloom in algae on the lakes' surface.
