That sinking feeling
As sea levels rise, low-lying parts of the UK will face more coastal flooding. But East Anglia could be in for a double whammy. While the waters rise, the land is sinking.
Northwest Britain has been rising since the last ice age, freed from the weight of the ice that once covered the land. At the same time, the Southeast has been sinking by about a millimetre a year. Add in future sea level rises and some coastal areas of East Anglia could become uninhabitable.
