'Climate change is another thing that farmers don't need', says Matt Livermore of the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit. UK farmers will have to deal with milder and wetter winters, causing sodden soil, more disease and more pests. Then, in summer, they'll be struck by droughts.
'Many farmers in the Southeast are getting ready by building reservoirs to store winter water', he explains. And they're starting to cultivate new crops that will cope with climate change.
