Blooming oceans
Add iron to the ocean and you get more phytoplankton - microscopic creatures that breathe in carbon dioxide. Some scientists hope that by throwing extra iron into the ocean, they'll encourage more phytoplankton to breed, and guzzle up some of our carbon dioxide emissions.
Phytoplankton convert carbon dioxide to energy using sunlight. When they die, they sink to the ocean bottom, carrying the carbon dioxide with them.
