Forget coal-fired power stations. By 2025 over half of us may have our own mini power plants humming away in our airing cupboards.

The extra heat produced by the power plants won't go to waste either. We'll use it to heat our houses. Today's power stations lose 60 per cent of the energy they make.

As well as the climate, our purses will benefit. For a typical household, the technology could mean £200 off the annual energy bill.
