Flexible future
The hope is that soon, solar-active bundles can be woven into a tough, flexible and lightweight material - ideal for sportswear.
But it's not just the fashion world that will be taken by storm. Bendy solar panels will come into their own in developing countries, where they can be rolled up, put in the back of a truck and moved from site to site.
'What's really clever is that the films don't have to stay flexible, we can solidify them once in place. So they are perfect for hard to reach areas,' Robert Mather, Heriot-Watt University
