Sonic boom

During supersonic flight Concorde creates conical shock waves at the nose and tail ends. These shock waves cause changes in the air pressure at points on the earth's surface along and near to the aircraft's flight path. The air pressure changes can be heard in the form of a boom or bang. The sonic boom from Concorde produces a noise directly beneath the flight path, which sounds like a
double-barrelled shotgun being fired nearby.
