Atlantic race
Concorde flew into the record books when she made her first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic on September 26th 1973. She flew from the US capital, Washington, to Orly airport in Paris in just 3 hours 32 minutes, slashing the previous record for a transatlantic airliner journey by half.
The short flying time reduces the effects of jet lag, and when crossing the Atlantic westwards the five hour time difference means Concorde effectively arrives before she has taken off. The soaring super-jet became the transport of choice for jet-setters living the high life.
