Not everyone's happy about paying the C-charge. Motorists have been coming up with all kinds of wheezes to avoid handing over a fiver. But most of these won't beat the system.
'People have been changing letters with tape, or obscuring part of the licence plate with mud. This actually makes charge-dodgers easier to spot, because the plate is instantly flagged up as not matching the DVLA database. Our staff can then manually examine the pictures to identify the car. We catch between ten and twenty people every day.'
