Ugly on the inside
Shredded electronic waste isn't pretty and it doesn't seem very precious either. But Anna Robson is a chemist who believes otherwise. She's trying to recover the dozen or more precious or toxic metals printed on the circuit boards inside our mobiles and other electronic gadgets.
At Imperial College London she's working on a way to strip the metal traces from their plastic backing - keeping them from being lost for ever to landfill or worse, escaping to poison soil and water.
