Liquid gold
Liquid crystal displays are complex and the crystals themselves take a lot of energy to produce. Weight for weight, the crystals are more expensive than gold or platinum.
'This is a potentially valuable resource - it's expensive to produce, and when you throw your phone away the case may be cracked, and the battery busted, but chances are the liquid crystal still works,' explains Peter Murphy.
