Double-crossed
The next breakthrough in DNA nanotechnology came in 1993 when Seeman worked out how to make DNA more rigid. He used DNA strands that could cross-link with each other when placed side by side.
'The double-crossover molecule is at least twice as stiff as ordinary DNA. We used it to make the first DNA crystal and the first DNA-based nano-mechanical device, a long shaft of DNA that changes shape.' Ned Seeman
