Big is beautiful
As well as mini-robots, the Guardian swarm will include some larger robots that can be fitted with more equipment, such as additional sensors. The researchers are currently using a wheeled robot as a prototype, but the finished product will be something a bit different - a heavy-duty machine that can plough over small obstacles on caterpillar tracks.
These robots will head into a fire with up to 200 kg of kit on board - including several mini-robots riding piggyback.
