Worth the risk?
Search-and-rescue teams need to know if there's a chance anyone could have survived an incident before they put themselves in danger. It might sound callous, but if toxins have been released at such high levels that there'd be no human survivors, it's not worth the risk.
The Viewfinder robots will carry a large array of chemical sensors to sample the atmosphere. They'll send the data back to a base station in a safe location. This can help search-and-rescue teams make difficult decisions.
