Another issue the scientists are tackling is how humans can patch into the robots' wireless network to receive information and tell the bots what to do. 'It's possible we could mount a communications system in the firefighters' helmets,' explains Jacques.

The experts will also be improving the wireless capabilities of the robots, so they can pick up weaker signals - all useful upgrades for facing the challenges of a fierce fire.
