A practical approach
The real-world challenges faced by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have really helped move the research in the right direction. 'They came up with a much simpler idea than we as engineers could,' says Jacques Penders, research coordinator from Sheffield Hallam University.
'We help keep the research realistic,' adds Neil. 'We lend a practical application to theoretical research - research that will significantly improve the safety of firefighters.'
