What's so special about this skeleton?

Antenna asked bone expert Peter Brown from the University of New England, Australia, what interested him most about this new species of human.

'The most surprising thing about the skeleton was the small size of the brain. Small body size is not so uncommon but the very small brain size was amazing.'

The last human-like creatures with brains this small lived over 3 million years ago in Africa - yet LB1 lived just 18,000 years ago, at the same time as modern humans like us.
