Inside LB1's skull

Now scientists have investigated LB1's skull to learn more about the brain of the 'hobbit-sized human'.

'During life, the exterior surface of the brain (or cerebral cortex) leaves impressions on the internal walls of the braincase. Casts that are prepared from empty skulls (endocasts) reproduce these details, which include overall brain shape, brain size (cranial capacity), a certain amount of information about the folds of the brain (convolutions), and blood vessels.' Dean Falk, prehistoric brain expert, Florida State University
