Friend or foe?
Some 10,000 years after the death of the last Neanderthal in Europe, it now looks as though modern humans were living alongside a human-like relative - Homo floresiensis - on the other side of the world in Indonesia.
We may never know if Homo floresiensis interacted with our own ancestors. Did they fight? Did they trade? Did they even interbreed? All we have left of LB1's species and of the Neanderthals is their bones - if only they could speak!
