Chocolate-chomping bacteria

Scientists from Birmingham have come up with a sweet sounding way of producing hydrogen. By feeding bacteria with a supply of waste produced from chocolate production, they have shown that bacteria give off hydrogen as they consume high-sugar snacks.

These confectionery-chomping bacteria could be a valuable source of non-polluting energy in the future and might help to power the hydrogen-fuelled vehicles of tomorrow.
