So what's the rush?

International space agencies are all rushing to Mars, because they might not get such a good chance for a long time.

Our planetary neighbour is currently closer to Earth than it's been for thousands of years, allowing scientists to send spacecraft by the shortest possible route. Mars Express's journey was a quick space hop of just 250 million miles.
