Almost French
The gap between Britain and France is just 33 km wide at its narrowest point, roughly between Dover in England and Calais in France. That's less than the distance run in the London Marathon.
Experts know that there used to be a 'bridge' of land that spanned this gap, and they've got several theories to explain why it's not there anymore. Now Sanjeev and his colleagues have found the first concrete evidence to support the idea that it was swept away in a huge flood, between 450,000 and 200,000 years ago.
