Seafaring sonar

Scientists have several ideas to explain the disappearance of the land bridge that once connected England and France. But until now, there's been no direct evidence to favour one theory over another.

Now experts from Imperial College London, in collaboration with the UK Hydrographic Office in Somerset and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, have used a cutting-edge sonar technique to map the English Channel seabed in more detail than ever before. So how does the technology work?
