Out of the ordinary

New maps of a massive valley on the English Channel seabed have wowed geology experts. 'To produce a valley this big requires an enormous amount of water, bigger than any other river that exists today,' says Sanjeev Gupta from Imperial College London. 'There was something intriguing about it. It didn't look like a normal river channel, but at first glance we weren't quite sure why.'

A closer look revealed several clues that pointed towards an ancient mega-flood.
