On 22nd February 2004, the Health Secretary John Reid called on the General Medical Council to investigate the MMR controversy.

Unfortunately for worried parents, the enquiry will not look at the safety of the triple vaccine but instead concentrate on the circumstances surrounding Andrew Wakefield's original study.

Dr Wakefield has been accused of having ulterior motives for finding a link between the MMR jab and the symptoms of the group of children studied, but he maintains he has done nothing wrong and stands by the results of his study.
