How does your child's body defend against a virus attack? Some cells that the virus has invaded will chew it up and spit viral pieces back out. These pieces have a distinct shape, unique to that virus.

Once a few cells have learned to spot pieces of the invader, they quickly multiply, supplying your child's body with trained reinforcements that will also spot the piece when it's part of an intact virus.
