A unique signature

Peter has a database of about 20,000 DNA samples, collected from around the world, including 2,000 from Africa. He analysed samples from the Motherland volunteers and compared them to his genetic database to find the closest match. One volunteer had a surprising result.

Peter found only 8 identical matches to Beaula McCalla's DNA - all from people living on the tiny island of Bioko off the west African coast. No other sample in Peter's whole database had Beaula's 'signature'.
